The habits you develop as a business owner are, quite frankly, key to your success. Your habits can either push your business forward, or they can hold your business back.
So with progress in mind, let’s take a look at some really simple, easy to implement habits that will push your business forward in 2021.

Habits you’ve developed over the years have formed because you’ve repeated that behaviour regularly enough for it to become natural.
Creating new habits needs to work in exactly the same way. You can’t expect to write 1,000 words every day from day one. It must happen gradually for you to be able to sustain it. So let’s start small.
Easy habit #1: Do the important task/s first
I’m guessing that as a business owner, you have a lot you need to achieve in any given day. You’ll have all sorts of tasks, large and small on your list to accomplish.
But if you’ve ever finished work for the day and wondered why you didn’t feel like you achieved anything, it was probably because you’ve been focusing on your tasks in the wrong order.
In other words, you’ve been spending your precious energy on smaller tasks and avoiding the bigger ones.
My advice in this situation is to get your most important task done first.
This technique requires a lot of willpower and discipline first thing in the morning. But once you’ve accomplished that important task, all others that follow it will feel easier. And you’ll start to make real and tangible progress in your business.
If you always put the most important tasks first each day, you’ll always get the most important thing done.
Easy habit #2: Do a daily review
Your working day is probably packed. Creating a habit like journaling, while it’s beneficial, maybe a bit of a stretch to start with. Instead of jumping headfirst into a harder to accomplish habit, start instead by doing a daily review.
At the end of your working day, grab a piece of paper, the note app on your phone, or a document on your computer, and take one to two minutes to do a bullet point list of the things you achieved that day.
Keep this simple to start with. You can always add more to it or spend longer on it once you’ve made it a habit.
Write down the tasks you got done, any milestones you hit, and how you felt about your progress that day.
Make this task even simpler by having a notepad on your desk, or a document you can open quickly on your computer.
Not only will this habit allow you to quickly decompress after your working day, but it will also help you build that gratitude muscle too.
Easy habit #3: Reward yourself for small achievements
As businesses owners, we’re always striving to achieve more, to grow our businesses, and improve ourselves. While we’re constantly working on our goals it’s hard to take a step back and acknowledge our achievements, however large or small.
While building your business, make a conscious effort to make a habit of acknowledging your progress, and make it a regular task. Add an event to your calendar to regularly take stock and reward yourself for doing a good job.
Treat yourself to a delicious meal, enjoy a long weekend off, or simply make yourself the best damn cup of coffee you can.
Your achievements deserve celebration, no matter how small the milestone. By doing this, you’ll remind yourself to enjoy the process of building a business, rather than racing towards the final goal. Making your business journey not only enjoyable but sustainable too.
So tell me in the comments, what habits are you going to develop for your business in 2021?
